Ayurveda Treatment for Sinusitis

What is Sinusitis?

A sinusitis or sinus infection is inflammation of sinuses. Sinuses are tiny hollow pockets lined by mucous, found around the bones behind and around nose.

Ayurvedic view

In Ayurveda, it is co-related with “Pratishyaya”. Pratishyaya is the most prevelant disease in Nasagata-vikara. Acharya charaka said, “Pratikshnam shyayati iti pratishyaya”, which means elimination of Kaphadi doshas persistently through nose.

Origin of Pratishyaya

Prati + syaya

PratiAbhimukha (means towards)

SyayaGamana (means movement)

So the general meaning of pratisyaya is, “moving towards”

Pathology

When kaphadi doshas lodge in Shira (head) excessively, then with the indulgence of nidana (causative factors), it leads to alleviation of Vata dosha in the head causing the disease named “Pratishyaya”.
